The new town of Glenrothes has a wonderful collection of public art dating from the 1960s to the present.
Back in 1968 the Glenrothes Development Corporation made a bold move and appointed a ‘Town Artist’ and the rest as they say is history.
The Town Art Trail’s public artworks include some rather unusual items like a family of hippos, a ring of dancing children, giant mushrooms and a concrete TV and armchairs! There are also mor contemplative and abstract pieces.
The artworks are not all freestanding and there are many murals and sculptures set within buildings, walkways and underpasses. A lot of the artworks are made from Industrial building materials like concrete, brick, stone and steel and a handful of pieces use bronze.
There are several artworks in the town centre but you’ll also find them dotted across the town in all sorts of places from greenspaces to roundabouts to playparks.
You can travel to all the locations by bus.
