Old Tom Morris Statue

Sculpted by David Annand, this magnificent statue sits on Bow Butts, which is behind The Royal & Ancient Golf Golf Clubhouse, with four-time Open champion Morris looking towards the world famous Old Course. Old Tom Morris was born and lived in St Andrews and was known as the father of modern golf. He was an expert player and repeated championship winner but his skills went beyond the game itself – he was also a highly respected course designer and greenkeeper, a skilled club and ball manufacturer, and nurturer of young talent.

Morris was a great supporter of young golfing talent and his own son Tommy (‘Young’ Tom Morris) was also a renowned professional player. After debuting at age 14 in the Open Championship, he went on to win the competition four times consecutively. He died tragically young at age 24,
