Take a walk along the charming Main Street in Lower Largo and look up when you reach number 101, you will see the statue of Alexander Selkirk.
Selkirk provided the inspiration for the story Robinson Crusoe, written by Daniel Defoe. He was a sailor who travelled the oceans and spent four years and four months living alone on the island of Juan Fernández the Pacific Ocean in complete solitude.
The statue is on the site of his original home on the Main Street of Lower Largo. It shows Selkirk clad in animal skins with musket in hand, and a flintlock pistol and swords in belt.
The statue is on Main Street, Lower largo, towards the East End.
