Glenrothes Town Art

The new town of Glenrothes has a wonderful collection of public art set within a carefully planned urban landscape, dating from the 1960s to the present.

Back in 1968 the Glenrothes Development Corporation made a bold move and appointed a ‘Town Artist’ and the rest as they say is history.

Today there are well over 100 artworks to be found across the town with a wide variety of styles from figurative to the abstract and from the humorous to contemplative. There are both prominent landmark sculptures and more enclosed, hidden pieces. The art works are not all freestanding and there are many murals and sculptures set within buildings, walkways and underpasses. A lot of the artworks are made from Industrial building materials like concrete, brick, stone and steel and a handful of pieces use bronze.

There are several artworks in the town centre but you’ll also find them dotted across the town in all sorts of places from greenspaces to roundabouts to playparks.

The artworks are located across Glenrothes, a good starting point is the town centre.
